Joe Lavin’s career focus has been on hotel development, ownership, franchising and brand creation through the initiation and management of change. Consulting services in connection with his experience are summarized below.

Franchising
Lavin spent more than 20 years in the lodging franchise arena with Marriott and Choice Hotels, and offers unique experience with franchise sales, brand management, franchisee relations and strategy. As CEO of Marriott ExecuStay, he created the corporate housing industry's first franchise program. For five years he taught the course, "Franchising in the Hospitality Industry" at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration.
Brand Creation
While with Marriott, he spearheaded the creation of one of Marriott's newest brands, Springhill Suites, and was instrumental in the development and rollout of the Fairfield Inn revitalization strategy, dubbed "New Blue." While SVP of New Products with Choice hotels, he led the team which created MainStay Suites and earlier as SVP of Development was deeply involved in the creation of Sleep Inns and Comfort Suites.
Optimization of Lodging Real Estate Through Transformation
Lavin's experience as owner of the Norwich Inn, Norwich Vermont, makes him uniquely qualified to provide consulting services in connection with the acquisition, operation and evolution of unique lodging properties. When he purchased the Inn in 2006 there were imbedded challenges and opportunities to make significant improvements in the asset and its performance.
Eleven out building rooms were taken down and replaced by 22 new units, office space and owners apartment, in two new buildings. An expanded number of units was made possible by the utilization of unused land. This was accomplished in the cautious town of Norwich with its myriad approval processes as well as the navigation of the challenging State of Vermont Act 250 provisions. The project began in 2008 as a concept and was completed by February, 2010.
